We know we make mistakes, in spite of our best efforts. We’re committed to putting them right as quickly as possible, making sure that customers don’t lose out as a result.

Our regulator, Ofgem, has now made this commitment to fairness part of the operating license for all energy companies, a move we strongly supported. Ofgem has called this commitment Standards of Conduct and it has published a set of guidelines explaining what they expect. We will be publishing these guidelines shortly.

Ofgem has asked us to publish a statement every year, explaining how we’re implementing our commitment to fairness, and what that means for our customers . So below, you’ll see the first of these annual reviews. We’ve explained what we think `fairness’ means, the action we’re taking, and where we’re planning to focus in the future.

Most importantly of all, we’re asking our customers to get in touch with. We’ve worked through what we think customer fairness means. But do you, our customers, agree? What does fairness mean for you? What are we getting right, and where do we need to improve? Where should we focus next? What changes would you like to see?
