The Energy Bill Relief Scheme

We would like to take this opportunity to reassure our prospective and existing customers and clarify the following on the Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS):

  • The Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) applies to fixed contracts agreed on or after 1st December 2021 as well as to deemed, variable and flexible tariffs and contracts. It will apply to energy usage from 1st October 2022 to 31st March 2023, running for an initial six-month period for all non domestic energy users..
  • All energy suppliers will apply the same discount. This discount will automatically appear on your statements. Customers do not need to apply for the scheme or contact us.
  • The BEIS department recommends all customers continue to enter into fixed price agreements as normal to shield businesses from future wholesale price increases. This way we can ensure all our customers are protected from the volatility in the current wholesale market.
  • For customers who qualify for the Energy Bill Relief Scheme we kindly ask all qualifying customers to provide us with monthly gas and / or electricity meter reads until end of the scheme. This should be done ideally on the first day of the month or no later than the 10th.This will be a great help to get your bills as accurate as possible and ensure we apply the right discount throughout the scheme period.

What Every Organisation Needs to Know about the P272 Regulation

by D-ENERGi

There’s been a critical change to the company energy supply marketplace and all companies and organisations will need to understand what the P272 regulation means for them.

Basically, the P272 regulation means a company with a non-half hourly profile type electricity meter will have to modify or replace it – if they haven’t already done so since the deadline for this has passed.

The objective will be to bring about business efficiencies that ought to deliver lower energy bills for companies along with other advantages.

To discover whether your company or organisation is influenced by P272 and whether there’s a need to switch to a half hourly meter (HH) then they will have to check whether they are in the Profile Class 05-08.

The information is on the meter itself or on the firm’s bill.

By switching to HH meters the energy sector can track real consumption of energy from the information it receives every half hour through remote communications with the meters.

Lower and much more accurate energy statements

Energy regulator Ofgem says this half hour delivery of information should result in lower and much more accurate energy statements for firms.

Another reason for Ofgem’s excitement for P272 is that the move should also encourage companies to transfer their use of energy to more low-cost periods that will help lower their bills and smooth out peak demand.

By doing this, an organisation may also access lower prices because energy providers are providing lower tariffs for firms that will alter their energy use periods.

Also, the information from these HH meters should provide the company with more detailed information about usage and times of peak demand so they can negotiate with their current supplier for lower prices or negotiate a deal with a new energy provider.

There’s a lot to recommend the latter as a course of action since there are lots of energy suppliers to choose from now and not just the ‘Big Six’; there has also been an improvement in customer service levels and many also offer an energy audit.

Switch to P272 metres

For those firms interested in switching suppliers, and they may not be required to switch to P272 metres, then they can also research the market to find lower energy prices and better suppliers.
