P272 Legislation and Your Business

by Simon Thompson

If your firm or organisation is looking to reduce its energy overheads and you’re looking for a new supplier, you may hear about the P272 legislation and your business. While the new rules concerning P272 only affect large users of energy, the legislation is considered to be a big change to the energy supply market, certainly the biggest since the market was deregulated. However, P272 legislation is straightforward and ultimately helps firms and organisations access cheaper energy providers because their usage is monitored every 30 minutes. This data is then sent to the provider, the meters that do this are sometimes known as half hourly or HH meters, and your bill will accurately reflect the amount of energy used. There are no estimated bills when you have HH meters installed. Benefits of having P272 introduced One of the benefits of having P272 introduced was that it enabled firms to see accurately how and when they are using energy and to use this information to find a cheaper deal from another provider. There is software available to analyse the data that will flag up where savings can be made and where the peak periods of demand are. It’s this information about peak usage that may also lead to a firm switching their demand to lower peak tariffs where they can save large amounts of money on their energy overheads. So, while P272 has been in place for some time there will be business owners or senior members of staff who have never heard of this legislation previously. Essentially, all firms and organisations affected by P272 will have had a new meter installed to supply the relevant data to their provider. In the unlikely event that your firm comes under the legislation and you do not have a half hourly meter installed, you need to rectify this with your provider. P272 legislation can help lower bills In the search for cheaper energy overheads, P272 legislation can help lower bills because the information can be used by another provider to offer a detailed tariff. It’s worth speaking to the D-Energi team who will be able to look at the entire marketplace, which means not restricting the search for better providers to the ‘Big Six’ firms since there are newer suppliers available with better offers and other services. In terms of other services, a potential new provider may offer a consultancy service to help you use less energy and help your firm enjoy longer-term savings on energy bills.   For more information about energy consultancy services and the P272 legislation, then speak with the experts at D-Energi.

Switch on to Cheap Business Energy

by Simon Thompson

One effective way of saving money on a firm’s overheads is to switch on to cheap business energy deals to lower your gas and electricity bills. While many firms and organisations will complete this exercise when their current supplier contacts them to inform them of what their contract rates next year will be, not all firms will then complete the switchover process. That may be down to the firm believing that they aren’t saving much money by switching providers and it is probably too complex a process to undertake. This is not the case and it is likely that the firm concerned is simply looking at the ‘Big Six’ energy providers. But if they looked at the entire marketplace to find a more competitive supplier, they will undoubtedly save on their energy overheads and some firms could save up to 25% by simply switching providers. Find a cheap business electricity deal It also needs to be pointed out that the switchover process is seamless and when you find a cheap business electricity deal to suit your needs, there will be no loss of supply. This will be a crucial aspect of most firms when they look to find a cheaper energy supplier. Indeed, nearly every firm and organisation will need a supply of electricity for them to operate on a daily basis and many may be wary about the prospect of losing their supply and not being able to function. While the electricity and gas supply markets for business have been deregulated in the UK, there is still a watchdog, it’s called Ofgem, to ensure that a firm delivers the deals and offerings it promises and ensures the market works effectively. There are several ways for firms to find a cheap business energy deal and that is to contact energy providers directly, give them a few details and then see who has the best offering. Obviously, this can be a time-consuming process when business owners are likely to be busy with their everyday activities. Search for cheap business gas and electricity providers In the search for cheap business gas and electricity providers, a firm could use a comparison site to find the latest deals and the sites will give an indication of what a competitive price for their business will be; you can then use this information and negotiate a cheaper deal with your current provider. Alternatively, with this marketplace price in mind, you could speak with the business energy supply experts at D-Energi who will be searching the entire marketplace, which the comparison website may not be doing, to find a deal that will probably beat their current offering.   If you would like to know more about accessing cheap business energy deals for your firm’s or organisation’s everyday needs, then speak with the friendly team at D-Energi today.

Why Businesses Must Switch Energy Providers

by Simon Thompson

There are two very good reasons why businesses must switch energy providers on a regular basis or, at least, undertake a comparison exercise. The first reason is to access cheaper bills for your firm’s use of electricity and gas; this will lead to lower bills and overheads. The second reason is that with more firms looking to switch business energy suppliers will help boost competition in the marketplace and this will stimulate lower prices for all businesses. This means that all businesses will benefit as a result. To underline the situation, a government survey revealed that 40% of firms have never bothered switching so they are probably overpaying for their business gas and electricity needs. Looking at an energy switch between business providers It’s also important for those firms who have never bothered looking at an energy switch between business providers appreciate that the process is straightforward and seamless; there’s no loss of supply when you switch from one supplier to another. Most firms will be busy with their day-to-day activities and they may believe that this exercise is pointless since all of the energy firms will have similar offers. Unless you look at what the market is offering, how will your firm or organisation appreciate what the potential savings could be? There’s no doubt that gas and electricity prices can be a financial burden for many businesses and all organisations should become more energy savvy. Indeed, the Competition and Markets Authority has highlighted that small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK are over-paying by £280 million every year for their energy needs. Most of this will be down to not switching energy providers. Switching energy providers The best time for any firm or organisation to look at switching energy providers is when your current provider contacts you with details of your next year’s contract. This opens a window of opportunity for you to shop around, find a new deal, inform your current supplier that you are switching and the process will begin. It is possible to switch providers while under contract but there may be administration fees to pay but all firms should look at carrying out this exercise regularly.   The best way of finding out whether you can save money on your overheads by when you switch energy suppliers is to speak with the experienced team at D-Energi who have access to the latest and best business energy deals.

Tips to Help Choose New Business Energy Suppliers

by Simon Thompson

If you are looking for tips on how to choose new business energy suppliers then this article will help. We all want to run a reliable and efficient business operation which means that we need a good energy supplier to enable us to be successful. Just about every firm and organisation in the UK requires electricity for their everyday needs and sourcing a new, cheaper and better supplier is straightforward. Indeed, the first step is to consider what your firm’s energy needs are so you understand what a potential new tariff will deliver. Potential new business electricity suppliers So, if we look at potential new business electricity suppliers, you’ll appreciate that this is a competitive marketplace with deals and offers to change on a regular basis. Essentially, you should consider what your firm needs from a supplier and take these issues into account: Your business type: Whether you are a restaurant, manufacturer or an IT firm, the amount of electricity you require will be different from a firm in a different sector. This will have an impact on prices. How do you use energy: You may simply need to power an office with computers and lights but you may be a manufacturer running large machinery. When do you use electricity: Most firms will be looking for energy between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, which will be the peak periods of use. Cheaper tariffs will be available outside of these hours if you can switch your peak periods.   Sourcing new business gas suppliers The advice to find a potential new business electricity supplier also extends to sourcing new business gas suppliers. While we use less gas, and not every firm needs a gas supply, there are still good deals available for those who are looking to switch. As with electricity, when and how you use gas will play a part in the deals and offers available. Also, all firms and organisations should look to see whether there are cheaper deals available when their current supplier sends details of their next year’s contract prices.   If you would like more tips and advice about how to choose new business energy suppliers, then it’s time to speak with the experts at D-Energi who can explain more about the deals on offer and help you switch to a cheaper supplier.
