Police, Children & elderly first to feel the pain!

Local councils will have to cut £500 million of services within the next ten months as part of the Government’s attempts to find £6 billion in savings. The Communities Department has been told that its funding will fall by 27 per cent in real terms from 2009-10. The huge drop will lead to tens of thousands of extra job losses as well as cuts in frontline services. Areas most likely to be hit are residential and home care for the elderly, sport and leisure facilities, environmental schemes, libraries and museums.
